Frequently Asked Questions.

House Rules: Puppy Love, Inc. requires all pets entering our facilities to be up-to-date on vaccinations. Pets with flea infestations must be treated prior to entering our facility.

We strive to be flexible and accommodating for our clients and therefore offer extended weekday and weekend grooming hours. Appointments can be made as early as 10 am and as late as 5:00 pm, depending on the day and service requested.

Regular grooming is as important to your pets overall health as regular veterinary care, and can help prevent stress and minimize the discomfort that often comes with less frequent grooming. Most pets should be groomed every 4-6 weeks, depending on breed, coat type and level of at home maintenance. Our Spa Bath package is an ideal option between Full Service Spa or Mini Spa appointments to help minimize matting.

At Puppy Love, Inc. your pets' safety is our priority. Therefore, we do not use cage dryers but choose to take the extra time to dry manually with a forced air dryer.

For the health and safety of our pets and others, Puppy Love, Inc. requires all pets entering our facility to be up to date on rabies vaccination.  Documentation or verbal confirmation from your veterinarian will need to be provided prior to the grooming service being performed. Sorry, but we cannot accept rabies tags as proof of vaccinations.

While some dogs really enjoy the grooming process, the reality is that most don't. Therefore we strive to minimize the amount of time that your pet spends in our care. When you make your grooming appointment, either over the phone or online, you will be given an estimated grooming time for your pet. Grooming times may be longer or shorter than estimated depending on factors such as coat condition or how your pet reacts to the grooming process. We will do our best to communicate with you regarding changes to the estimated grooming times that we have given you throughout the process. And, for your convenience, we will phone you 15 minutes prior to completion to let you know it is time to pick up your pet.

For the safety of your pet, we request that you observe from a location in the store where you cannot be seen or heard by your pet. This will keep your pet from getting excited and wiggling around during the grooming process, which can be particularly dangerous when our groomers are working on certain areas of the body. We will be happy to keep you updated on the progress of your pet throughout the process.

We've spent a great deal of time finding safe, all-natural, chemical free or organic products for use in our facility. The products we've located offer many health benefits and allow us to tailor their use to your pets' specific needs. Our products address issues such as dandruff, dry skin, inflammation, hot spots and anxiety. Please speak with us about any of these issues that your pet may have so that we can use the product which is best suited to your pets needs.

To ensure that you are able to book an appointment at a time that works best for you, it is recommended that you book at least 3 weeks in advance. It is highly recommended that you schedule appointments in advance at regular intervals, as recommended by your groomer (example – every 6 weeks). This will insure you get the appointment times that you want and that your pet is being maintained exactly the way you want them to be. For your convenience, you can book your appointment online or call us at 248-301-5154.

At Puppy Love, Inc., the safety and well-being of your pet is our top priority. We will consult with owners to determine if we can safely groom their pet without risking injury to the pet or staff.

Consult your veterinarian to determine when it is appropriate to have your puppy groomed. First “puppy” grooms typically take place between 8-12 weeks of age. The earlier you expose your puppy to the grooming process, the greater the opportunity to create a positive association and acceptance of the process for them.

We find that our grooming process – start to finish – typically works very well for dogs deemed “difficult” or “uncooperative”. As long as they do not show aggression, we will work with them to foster acceptance of the process. The best conditioning happens at home and can be achieved by twice weekly “grooming” sessions. These sessions should include brushing of feet, ears and face and lots of handling of legs, tail and body. You can make these sessions enjoyable by providing treat rewards. This will help to alleviate the stress and fear that is often associated with a trip to the groomer. It's never too late to start this process at home and great results can be achieved through consistency.

We aren't picking on our more challenging customers….we love them all! However, when dealing with “difficult dogs” it often requires more than 1 person to manage through the grooming process. This takes us away from our other clients, and therefore requires us to charge an additional fee starting at $5 which could go as high as $20.

We use only safe handling techniques at Puppy Love, Inc. We will try to safely complete the groom. If we feel that cannot be accomplished without causing undue stress to the pet, we may ask that you pick up your pet and bring them in for a follow-up visit so that we can continue the process. If, after repeated attempts, we cannot provide you with the service you requested we will consult with you on other options for maintaining your pets' skin and coat health.

We have a firm policy that we will not submit pets to stresses caused by lengthy grooming sessions or procedures that may aggravate age, joint and or health related conditions. Dogs with extensive grooming needs require more grooming time per visit, which can exhaust their ability to cooperate and increase their discomfort, and ultimately lead to behavioral problems. Depending on the severity of the matting, we may be able to accomplish what you desire. If the matting is severe and next to the skin, the most humane option is almost always to perform a shorter cut so that we can start with a clean palette. With proper at-home maintenance, it is possible to keep your pets coat the desired length. Please talk to us about your goals, and we will work with you on recommending the appropriate tools and techniques to achieve them.

De-matting charges may apply depending on the amount of time required to complete the de-matting process. Typically, additional de-matting (via brushing or shaving) that requires more than 10 minutes of the standard appointment time will result in a charge of $1 per minute, or $60 an hour. If we attempt to de-mat but it results in excessive discomfort for the pet, we will stop the process and consult with you to discuss other options.

We have a great respect for our senior friends and believe they deserve the best. When your pet reaches a certain age, however, it is better to provide the essentials. Our goal is to keep your dog comfortable and happy when they are receiving these services. Sometimes, this means that they aren't going to get the “show cut” you might want, but they will be well taken care of and experience minimal stress!

Absolutely! We will work with you to schedule your appointments to best suit your needs.

Because we schedule much like a traditional hair salon, it is critical that you arrive on time for drop off and pick up. If you know that you will be late, please call us to confirm that we will still be able to perform your scheduled groom, as there is the possibility that we might have to reschedule to avoid delays for our other clients. We know that things happen, so we will work with you to schedule or re-schedule when it is most convenient for you.

We understand that life happens! As a courtesy to all of our guests, we request that you give us a 24 hour cancellation notice so that we can give that time slot to another customer.
