Why Groom?

Think grooming only makes your dog look good? Not so! One of the most important things you can do to maintain your dog's health is to make sure he or she stays well groomed. Regular grooming will ensure that potential problems like parasites and skin conditions are prevented and dealt with swiftly. Having a healthy coat benefits your dog in so many ways. By maintaining good grooming habits, you are doing far more than just showing off your dog's beautiful fur. You are also giving your dog the gift of good health!

Doggie Day School.

Doggie Day School is a brand new concept brought to you by IncrediPets Market. For this program, you drop off your dog in the morning and while you’re at work or school, your dog receives training, supervised socialization, a nap, and snack times throughout the day. There’s no “free-for-all” like in traditional doggie day care, and you can be rest assured knowing that your dog is having a great time, and learning too!

Customers can view our Daycare Webcam

Where other places deal in volume, we deal in the exclusivity of our care and the expertise of our staff. We pride ourselves in being able to offer similar benefits that one would expect with a private education at a school for human children. Our low student to instructor ratio provides for unparalleled quality in education, at our secure and carefully supervised facility.

It takes more than a “love of dogs” when your dog is involved. We focus on enriching activities and training instead for allowing your pet to run around like a scene from Night at the Museum or spend monotonous hours in a crate or kennel, run without the benefit of human direction or interaction.

You can be confident that your dog will be safe in our care, while being directed through manners training with our professional staff, structured social interactions with other dogs, and other individual activities throughout the day with some of Michigan's most experienced trainers and caregivers.

What makes this option an improvement over just “boarding” is obvious! Not only does your dog get to run and play in our secure, 4000 sq-ft indoor training area, but he/she will get the benefit of learning manners with hands-on teaching from our staff of experienced professional dog trainers.

In Dog Day School, you will drop off your pup in the morning and he or she will receive training and supervised socialization opportunities throughout the day. You’ll receive a report card on your dogs new and updated skills, and can even upgrade with special treats and grooming. Make an appointment today by calling 248-301-5154!

1. Dogs are supervised directly in every aspect of their days at IncrediPets. Play groups are organized by our highly trained staff and you can be sure that your dog will get a lot of interaction.

2. Improvement in social skills: Dogs in Day School will actually improve their social behavior! Because their days are structured, and involve training, play, and nap time. Dogs will become more comfortable in social environments and never be put in an uncomfortable position.

3. When not in play groups or training, dogs will spend time with people receiving love, snoozing on a comfy bed, or snuggling with a friend.

4. Any kind of training can be worked on while you are at work! This includes dogs that may not be good candidates for boarding or dog parks. Let our highly trained compassionate professionals help you and your dog have the best relationship possible!

Training- Coming Soon.

Here are the classes we’re currently offering. Let us know if there’s a class you would like to take that you don’t see, and we can add it to our future course offerings! To enroll in a class, your dog must be current on vaccines including Bordetella and have a negative fecal within 6 months.

This class focuses on building basic cues for working with your dog, such as sit, stay, down, and heel. This class welcomes those not interested in competing, as well as those that are looking to fill their walls with titles! This 8-week course will start your dog off right, and create skills that will allow you and your dog to work together for a lifetime. Maximum 12 students.

This class focuses on building and strengthening basic cues for working with your dog, such as sit, stay, down, and heel, as well as advanced concepts of retrieves and off-leash work. This class works with dogs of any skill level, from beginner through to open and utility competition. This class welcomes those not interested in competing, as well as those that are looking to fill their walls with titles! This 8week course will start your dog off right, and build the skills you already have as a team. This class can be taken as many times as you like to continue building your teamwork! Maximum 12 students.

K9 Nose Work is the fun search and scenting activity for virtually all dogs and people. This easy to learn activity and sport builds confidence and focus in many dogs, and provides a safe way to keep dogs fit and healthy through mental and physical exercise. Nose Work starts with getting your dog excited about using his nose to seek out a favorite toy or treat reward hidden in one of several boxes, expanding the game to entire rooms, exterior areas, and vehicles. As your dog grows more confident with his nose, target odors are introduced, and competition skills are taught. This 8-week course focuses on building fundamentals of nose work and advancing skills and can be taken as many times as you like. Maximum 12 students.

Want to work on some new fun tricks with your dog, and maybe even get a trick dog title? This class is for you! During class you will learn how to teach your dog specific tricks as well as the foundation of how to train your dog tricks, how to break down complicated tricks into specific parts, and how to put individual pieces together to complete a trick. Once you understand how to train tricks, the possibilities are endless as to what you can teach your dog.

Welcome to the next step in the perfect pup! Whether you want to try your hands (paws?) at the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test or simply want to take your dogs’ skills to the next level, the CGC class will fit your needs. The relationship building and training that leads to achieving the CGC provides an excellent foundation for enjoying other activities like therapy work, rally, obedience, and agility. All dogs that successfully complete the CGC test can receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club and are automatically recorded in the AKC’s Canine Good Citizen Archive. The CGC test will be administered on the last day of class for all attendees, and you will receive the signed form allowing AKC CGC registration.

The CGC exam consists of ten parts (taken directly from the AKC website):

    1. Accepting a Friendly Stranger. The dog will allow a friendly stranger to approach and speak to the handler (the dog owner) in a natural, everyday situation.

    2. Sit Politely for Petting.  The dog will allow a friendly stranger to pet it while it is out with the handler.

    3. Appearance and Grooming. The dog will permit someone to check its ears and front feet, as a groomer or veterinarian would do.

    4. Out for a Walk (walking on a loose lead). Following the evaluator's instructions, the dog will walk on a loose lead (with the handler/owner).

    5. Walking Through a Crowd. The dog will walk through a small crowd of pedestrians, passing in close proximity to at least three people.

    6. Sit and Down on Command and Stay in Place. The dog must demonstrate sit AND down on command, then the owner chooses the position for leaving the dog in the stay.

    7. Coming When Called.  The dog will come when called by the handler (from 10 feet away on leash).

    8. Reaction to Another Dog. The dog will behave politely around other dogs. Two handlers and their dogs approach each other from a distance of about 20 feet, stop, shake hands and exchange pleasantries.

    9. Reaction to Distractions. The evaluator will select and present two distractions such as dropping a chair, etc.

    10. Supervised Separation. This test demonstrates that your dog can be left with a trusted person. The evaluator will hold your dog’s leash while you go out of sight for three minutes.

This loose-leash walking and basic manners class focuses on the skill that most dog parents wish for: a great loose-leash while walking your dog! Utilizing many different skills, and building the relationship between dog and handler, we’ll figure out the best way to help your pup walk nicely without dragging you around and without using harsh training tools such as pinch, prong, or electric collars. Dogs who are leash-reactive or have demonstrated aggression to other dogs should enroll in private training before starting a group class. Please indicate on your registration form which day you’ll be attending (e.g. Mondays, Saturday mornings, etc.) , you will attend the same day each week. Students wishing to do multiple training days per week must register for each day independently. Maximum 20 students.

Weekend problem solving classes are open to anyone and everyone. In these sessions, dog parents can talk through issues and work on training solutions for those issues. Please indicate what issues you need help with at the time of registration to be sure we’re prepared to help you and your pup get on track! Not only will you learn to work through challenges with your own pup, you’ll be able to learn from each other. This class is ongoing and anyone can register up to the evening before the class. Maximum 12 students.

Private training is available for those humans and dogs that need individual help with a specific training issue. Anything from working on polite manners to dealing with problem behaviors can be addressed.  Our training philosophy centers on positive training methods that make learning fun for humans and dogs. We use up-to-date training philosophies that are based on science and compassion. Training sessions are $60 for a one-hour session and are by appointment only.

    Basic rules for the facility:

    1. Try not to feed a large meal to your dog before class. Allow at least two hours between the last meal and class time. That way your dog will not be full, and the positive food rewards will be most useful.

    2. Definitely take your dog for a walk or provide exercise at home before coming to class. We want them to take care of necessary business, and not be too hyped up when they arrive. Everyone will be excited of course, but it will help the dogs and the people focus if they don’t have to potty and have gotten a bit of the zoomies out ahead of time.

    3. Please bring bags with you in the event of an accident. Whenever you’re out with your dog, it’s a good idea to have these with you. I put them in my treat pouch extra pocket, along with a few folded up paper towels, just in case I need an emergency cleanup. We will of course have cleanup supplies, but it’s good to be prepared just in case.

    4. Please submit vaccination information according to your veterinarian’s protocol before class or on the first day of class. The training area is disinfected and cleaned regularly, but we don’t want anyone catching anything. There are a lot of young dogs around that might not have full immunity yet. You will not be allowed to train if we don’t have current vaccine information and a clean recent fecal exam (within 6 months).

    5. When coming to class, please wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows you to walk fast, bend, and move comfortably. Please wear shoes that have non-slip soles and heel straps, they need to stay on if you walk backwards!

    6. No flip-flops please. I know, I love them too, but they’re just not right for dog training.

    7. Occasionally a class may need to be cancelled due to extreme weather or something beyond our control. If there is a need to cancel a class, you will be contacted by phone and/or email. Any cancelled classes will be made up.

    8. Only one dog per handler please. You need to be able to focus on your dog in class, and vice versa. If you are a two-dog household, please bring a partner or friend and enroll separately for the class for each dog team.

    9. Please keep your distance from other teams unless you are directed to interact for class exercises. Being near other dogs and concentrating on training can be challenging for many dogs, this allows everyone to have a positive experience without surprises.

    Frequently Asked Questions.

House Rules: Puppy Love, Inc. requires all pets entering our facilities to be up-to-date on vaccinations. Pets with flea infestations must be treated prior to entering our facility.

We strive to be flexible and accommodating for our clients and therefore offer extended weekday and weekend grooming hours. Appointments can be made as early as 10 am and as late as 5:00 pm, depending on the day and service requested.

Regular grooming is as important to your pets overall health as regular veterinary care, and can help prevent stress and minimize the discomfort that often comes with less frequent grooming. Most pets should be groomed every 4-6 weeks, depending on breed, coat type and level of at home maintenance. Our Spa Bath package is an ideal option between Full Service Spa or Mini Spa appointments to help minimize matting.

At Puppy Love, Inc. your pets' safety is our priority. Therefore, we do not use cage dryers but choose to take the extra time to dry manually with a forced air dryer.

For the health and safety of our pets and others, Puppy Love, Inc. requires all pets entering our facility to be up to date on rabies vaccination.  Documentation or verbal confirmation from your veterinarian will need to be provided prior to the grooming service being performed. Sorry, but we cannot accept rabies tags as proof of vaccinations.

While some dogs really enjoy the grooming process, the reality is that most don't. Therefore we strive to minimize the amount of time that your pet spends in our care. When you make your grooming appointment, either over the phone or online, you will be given an estimated grooming time for your pet. Grooming times may be longer or shorter than estimated depending on factors such as coat condition or how your pet reacts to the grooming process. We will do our best to communicate with you regarding changes to the estimated grooming times that we have given you throughout the process. And, for your convenience, we will phone you 15 minutes prior to completion to let you know it is time to pick up your pet.

For the safety of your pet, we request that you observe from a location in the store where you cannot be seen or heard by your pet. This will keep your pet from getting excited and wiggling around during the grooming process, which can be particularly dangerous when our groomers are working on certain areas of the body. We will be happy to keep you updated on the progress of your pet throughout the process.

We've spent a great deal of time finding safe, all-natural, chemical free or organic products for use in our facility. The products we've located offer many health benefits and allow us to tailor their use to your pets' specific needs. Our products address issues such as dandruff, dry skin, inflammation, hot spots and anxiety. Please speak with us about any of these issues that your pet may have so that we can use the product which is best suited to your pets needs.

To ensure that you are able to book an appointment at a time that works best for you, it is recommended that you book at least 3 weeks in advance. It is highly recommended that you schedule appointments in advance at regular intervals, as recommended by your groomer (example – every 6 weeks). This will insure you get the appointment times that you want and that your pet is being maintained exactly the way you want them to be. For your convenience, you can book your appointment online or call us at 248-301-5154.

At Puppy Love, Inc., the safety and well-being of your pet is our top priority. We will consult with owners to determine if we can safely groom their pet without risking injury to the pet or staff.

Consult your veterinarian to determine when it is appropriate to have your puppy groomed. First “puppy” grooms typically take place between 8-12 weeks of age. The earlier you expose your puppy to the grooming process, the greater the opportunity to create a positive association and acceptance of the process for them.

We find that our grooming process – start to finish – typically works very well for dogs deemed “difficult” or “uncooperative”. As long as they do not show aggression, we will work with them to foster acceptance of the process. The best conditioning happens at home and can be achieved by twice weekly “grooming” sessions. These sessions should include brushing of feet, ears and face and lots of handling of legs, tail and body. You can make these sessions enjoyable by providing treat rewards. This will help to alleviate the stress and fear that is often associated with a trip to the groomer. It's never too late to start this process at home and great results can be achieved through consistency.

We aren't picking on our more challenging customers….we love them all! However, when dealing with “difficult dogs” it often requires more than 1 person to manage through the grooming process. This takes us away from our other clients, and therefore requires us to charge an additional fee starting at $5 which could go as high as $20.

We use only safe handling techniques at Puppy Love, Inc. We will try to safely complete the groom. If we feel that cannot be accomplished without causing undue stress to the pet, we may ask that you pick up your pet and bring them in for a follow-up visit so that we can continue the process. If, after repeated attempts, we cannot provide you with the service you requested we will consult with you on other options for maintaining your pets' skin and coat health.

We have a firm policy that we will not submit pets to stresses caused by lengthy grooming sessions or procedures that may aggravate age, joint and or health related conditions. Dogs with extensive grooming needs require more grooming time per visit, which can exhaust their ability to cooperate and increase their discomfort, and ultimately lead to behavioral problems. Depending on the severity of the matting, we may be able to accomplish what you desire. If the matting is severe and next to the skin, the most humane option is almost always to perform a shorter cut so that we can start with a clean palette. With proper at-home maintenance, it is possible to keep your pets coat the desired length. Please talk to us about your goals, and we will work with you on recommending the appropriate tools and techniques to achieve them.

De-matting charges may apply depending on the amount of time required to complete the de-matting process. Typically, additional de-matting (via brushing or shaving) that requires more than 10 minutes of the standard appointment time will result in a charge of $1 per minute, or $60 an hour. If we attempt to de-mat but it results in excessive discomfort for the pet, we will stop the process and consult with you to discuss other options.

We have a great respect for our senior friends and believe they deserve the best. When your pet reaches a certain age, however, it is better to provide the essentials. Our goal is to keep your dog comfortable and happy when they are receiving these services. Sometimes, this means that they aren't going to get the “show cut” you might want, but they will be well taken care of and experience minimal stress!

Absolutely! We will work with you to schedule your appointments to best suit your needs.

Because we schedule much like a traditional hair salon, it is critical that you arrive on time for drop off and pick up. If you know that you will be late, please call us to confirm that we will still be able to perform your scheduled groom, as there is the possibility that we might have to reschedule to avoid delays for our other clients. We know that things happen, so we will work with you to schedule or re-schedule when it is most convenient for you.

We understand that life happens! As a courtesy to all of our guests, we request that you give us a 24 hour cancellation notice so that we can give that time slot to another customer.
